Virgil Peter Boerner was born to William and Mary (nee Turck) Boerner, on February 25, 1938, on a farm north of Litchfield, Minnesota. He was received into the Franciscan community as a novice on June 21, 1962, and given the name Br. Claver. He professed Solemn Vows on June 22, 1966. Br. Claver’s main ministry to the province and the Church was fraternal service while working in various parishes - especially in Teutopolis, and Quincy, IL.
Br. Claver was preceded in death by his parents; his four brothers, Frederick, Clifford, Orville and James; his three sisters, Lucille, Adeline and Arlene. He is survived by brothers: Vernon, Willard, Gerald and sisters: Isabel and Louise; over 40 nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews. Br. Claver is also survived by his Franciscan family.
The Franciscan community would like to express their deep appreciation and assurance of prayers to the staff at St. Mary’s Home at the Felician Village for the care they gave to Br. Claver over the years he resided there.
Family, friars, and friends will gather on Friday, March 10, at Blessed Angela Chapel at the Felician Village, 1635 South 21st Street, Manitowoc, WI, at 11:00 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Br. Claver will be buried alongside his Franciscan brothers at Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc.
