Mrs. Bridget O'Neil Maher was born in 1834 and reared in this vicinity, on what is now known as the Meloy farm. She died Dec. 18th, 1901, in the 67th year of her age at her residence one half mile east of her birthplace. Mrs. Maher was the fifth of a large family all of whom were born and reared in the town of Shullsburg. The deceased was a victim of paralysis. She was married to Richard Maher Oct. 10th, 1849 and settled in this neighborhood after spending a few years in California.
Although blessed with no children of her own she has reared four to maturity, one of whom familarly known as Hattie gave her aunt as he called her, all the loving care possible, is left to mourn her loss. She also leaves a sorrowing sister, Mrs. Wm. Dorian who resides at Anaconda, Montana, and half sister, Mrs. Powers of Golden, Colo. Mrs. Dorian with her husband arrived here in time to take the last loving look at her sister as she lay in her beautiful casket in St. Matthew's church awaiting her arrival. After living a life of usefulness she has left us.
