November 22, 1934 - Storm Lake Pilot Tribune - George Ackerman, resident of Storm Lake for the past six years, died at his home, 501 Hudson street Tuesday evening at about 8 o'clock, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 19 days. Mr Ackerman has been in ill health for several years and was bedfast for two years prior to his death.
Born in Batum, Germany February 1, 1851 Mr. Ackerman was the oldest son of John George Ackerman and Mary Shillings Ackerman. He came to America at the age of 24 and worked in Benton county for 24 years. He was naturalized in 1886.
On April 12, 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Bean at Jolley, Iowa. To this union, ten children were born, seven daughters and three sons. After farming in Sac county for 20 years and in Minnesota for seven years. Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman retired from farming and moved to Sac City in 1922. They lived there for six years and later moved to Storm Lake in 1928 which was his home until his death. Mr. Ackerman was of the Lutheran faith all his life until he joined the Church of Christ at Sac City in 1927.
Those left mourn his death are the wife and ten children; nine grandchildren; one brother, Jacob I Ackerman of Wall Lake; one sister, Mrs. John Hansen of Sac City; five nephews; eight nieces, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held from the Central Christian church Friday afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. Norman R. Stacey will officiate. Interment will be in the Storm Lake cemetery.
