MIFFLINBURG - Irving L. Jacobus, 74, of Mifflinburg, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born April 29, 1934, in Newton, N.J., a son of the late David and Elizabeth Struble Jacobus. He was married 36 years to his beloved wife, the former Neva Provost, who survives.
Before moving to Mifflinburg 17 months ago, he lived in Wayne, N.Y., where he and his wife owned and operated the Hearts Delight Campsite for 26 years. At this time, he also worked for the Hammondsport Center School as a mechanic and bus driver.
Before moving to Wayne, he lived in Asbury, N.J., for nine years. While in New Jersey, he worked for Van Doren Oil Co. for 29 years, where he owned and operated his own truck.
Irving was a member of Weston Presbyterian Church in Weston, N.Y., and was a volunteer for the Wayne Fire Department.
He enjoyed antique car shows, country music and playing steel guitar. He was an avid boater and enjoyed spending time with his campers at the Hearts Delight Campsite.
In addition to his loving wife, Irving is survived by his three beloved sons and two cherished daughters, Irving L. Jacobus Jr. (Lee) and wife, Patricia (Freeman), of Lebanon, N.J., Brian A. Jacobus and wife, Janet (Rebinski), of Kingwood Township, N.J., John Sidorowich and wife, Betsy Herbert, of Santa Cruz, Calif., Wanda Johnson of Lebanon Township, N.J., and Marcia Hambleton of Mifflinburg; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Reigle of South China, Maine, Edna Waite of La Fayette, N.Y., and Eileen Lawler and husband, John, of Hillsborough, N.J.; several nieces and nephews; and his companion dog, Gypsie Rose.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clifford, Warren, David and Arthur, and one sister, Helen.
Viewing hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Branchburg Funeral Home, 910 U.S. Highway 202 South, Branchburg, N.J., followed by a prayer service at 10.
