Services for Robert O. "Bob" Compton, 66, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary with the Rev. Robert Freitag officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion. Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Acacia Lodge No. 9 AF&AM.

Mr. Compton died this morning at his home after a long illness.

He was a retired advertising representative of the Lawrence Journal-World. Before moving to Lawrence in 1957, Mr. Compton worked for the Ottawa Herald. After retiring from the Journal-World, he had worked as a sales representative for Hedges Real Estate and the Lawrence Printing Service, both in Lawrence.

He was born June 30, 1923, in Ottawa. Mr. Compton was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran.

He was a member of Acacia Lodge No. 9 AF&AM, where he had served as secretary. He was a member of the York Rite and Scottish Rite Bodies, the Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion, the 40 and 8 Club, the Alford-Clarke Post No. 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Lawrence. He also belonged to the Traveler's Protective Assn.

Mr. Compton recently had served as adjutant for the Dorsey-Liberty post and was a former commander of VFW Post No. 5901 in Ottawa.

Mr. Compton married Madge Wait on Jan. 17, 1948, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Julia L. Compton, Lawrence; three sons, James A., Richland, Wash., Robert W., Olathe, and Larry N., Lawrence; a brother, John C., Lancaster, Calif.; two sisters, Dorothy Stine, Kansas City, Kan., and Norma Galloway, Shawnee; and four grandchildren.
