According to the War of 1812 Veteran Burials in Virginia compiled by Myron Lyman, Dec 2011 draft, David Kerr served in the 5th Virginia Militia Regiment under Col. McDowell.
David Kerr, 1(st) Maj., regiment: en. B. ElbiB (hard to read), apptd 1807.
United States Registers of Enlistments in the U.S. Army, 1798-1914 (FS)
On the 1850 Dist. 2, Augusta Co., VA census, I found farmer William Kerr, 33; Elizabeth Kerr, 25; laborer George Cochran, 24; DAVID KERR, 82 (born 1768) and Margaret Jarnagan, 12, all VA born. Everyone on the page was born in VA, per ditto marks all down the page, so was David even asked? His father supposedly came here in 1783, via Pennsylvania.
