Howard Bishop, Jr., age 83, of Owenton, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Owenton Center surrounded by his family.
Born July 2, 1937, in Owen County, he was the son of the late Howard and Geneva Baker Bishop. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Letha Lowe; his grandson, Drew Mason; and his brother, Jeff Bishop. Junior was a devoted member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky with the State Highway Department. He enjoyed watching the UK Wildcats, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals and in his younger years, he coached many youth sports. He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, and hunting.
He will be missed by his wife of over 65 years, Bessie Dezarn Bishop; his children, Lucinda (Ricky) Wilhoite, Randy Bishop, and Luci (Steve) Grubb; his grandchildren, Kendra Wilhoite, Brad (Cretia) Wilhoite, Tim Hadden, Lauren (Andrew) Gilbert, Logan (Emily) Lowe, Lindsey (Tylor) Herndon, and Michael Grubb; and his great-grandchildren, Blake and Carson Gilbert and Kash Wilhoite.
McDonald & New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Dallasburg Baptist Church on Monday, November 2, 2020, from 11 am until 2:30 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 pm with Bro. David "Milkweed" Wotier presiding. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 11 am in the Owenton Cemetery.
