Carolina Mathilda Andersdotter was born June 30, 1848 in Västerlösa, Östergötland, Sweden, the daughter of Anders Peter Adamsson Andersson and Brita Cajsa Lind. Her father was a tailor in Sweden and he obtained passports for himself and his family on May 4, 1850 in Linköping, Sweden. They emigrated to America, arriving on July 3, 1850 at Boston, Massachusetts aboard the Anna Maria, which sailed from Göteborg, Sweden. The family went to Chicago where they joined the St. Ansgarius Church in the River North neighborhood.
