Services for Tommy Coats were held Sunday, May 16, 2004 at 3 p.m. from Good Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Barnett and the Rev. Dennis Polk officiated. Burial was in Good Hope Cemetery under the direction of McClain-Hays Funeral Home.

Mr. Coats, 62, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 in St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Neshoba County and a longtime resident of Hattiesburg. He worked for many years in retail grocery management with Jitney Jungle Stores of America and later retired from Winn-Dixie.

Mr. Coats was Baptist by faith.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Coats of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Pene Coats of Hattiesburg and Apryle Mather of Mobile, Ala.; one son, Mark Coats of Brandon; two step-daughters, Deborah Martin of Seminary and Laura Riels of Hattiesburg; two step-sons, Brad Riels of Seminary and Gary Riels of Ellisville; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one sister, Carrie Sharp of Philadelphia; three brothers, Grady Coats of Anniston, Ala.; Joe Coats and Benjie Coats, both of Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were John Walton, Joe Lovern, Robert Edwards, Jimmy Taylor, Al Poole, Billy Boliver, Larry Hardaway, David Lott and Jimmy Coats.
