Before Henry joined the Union Army, he took his wife and seven kids from Mine Lick Creek in Putnam County, Tennessee to Rough Creek, Kentucky for safety. Henry and his oldest son, Joseph, returned to Tennessee and joined Company I, 5th Tennessee Cav on 24 Nov 1862. Joseph died of chronic diarrhea in a military hospital in Nashville 3 weeks later. Joseph's body was reinterned into the Nashville National cemetery after the war. Henry died of measles in a military hospital in Murfreesboro two months later after his son died. For some reason, after the war, his body was not reinterned into the Stones River National Cemetery as most were. His body became "lost in war". The tombstone at Rough Creek is beside his wife and is an "in memory of" tombstone. His body is somewhere in the earth at Murfreesboro. Rest in peace.
