Great Grandmother Susannah Esther Mudgett, living in Berkshire, Franklin County, Vermont married her 1st husband Andrew Farrand Jr. of Berkshire, Vermont on the 21st. February 1864 in the Seigniory of St. Armand, according to their marriage certificate. First Husband Andrew Farrand Jr. died in the Civil War at Andersonville Prison on 21st December 1864 of that same year, according to his Civil War record.
Susannah married 2nd husband and Great Grandfather Henry Isaac Stanley on the 20th November 1869. Their marriage certificate says Berkshire, Franklin County, Vermont. They made their home in East Berkshire on Henry's farm. She and Henry together had nine children and all of them lived to adulthood, but two. They lost son Albert on the 31st August 1873 at one year, three months of age.
Susannah was married to Henry for 14 years, 9 months and 27 days before she became ill and died on the 17th of September 1886 leaving behind 8 young children ranging in ages from 13 years to 2 years old, with son Daniel the oldest at 13 and Blaine the youngest at 2 years old. To date I've not found any documentation on how Henry and the children managed after Susannah's death. They did continue living on the farm in East Berkshire, Vermont because when Henry bought additional land the deed states the farm as his residence. And school records show the children went to school there.
Susannah is buried in the Congregational Cemetery, East Berkshire, Franklin County, Vermont in the Stanley lot with husband Henry beside of her.
