Donald Dewayne Letcher, age 74, he was born April 18, 1945 in Worthington, MN to Everett and Viola (Cummings) Letcher. He went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2019 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical with family by his bedside. He will be cremated with no services. A celebration of life will be in the summer of 2020. Don grew up in Sioux Falls, SD. He joined the service and served his country honorably. His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal with two bronze stars. He was a deckhand /signalmen on the USS John R. Craig DD-885. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1967. Donald was then in the Naval reserve until 1969. Upon discharged from the navy he attended Southeast Vocational School in Sioux Falls and graduated as a mechanic. He was also a member of the Brandon VFW. Donald enjoyed playing cards, dancing, classic cars, dumpster diving, antique road show, and he especially loved his "Q" of spades. He married Alvina (VanBeek) Tiedeman on August 24, 1974. She had three daughters Melissa, Loretta, and Suzanna. He had one daughter Jolynn. Together Don and Alvina had three daughters Tonya, Trista and Sheila. Mr. Letcher is survived by his wife Alvina Letcher of 45 years. His children Melissa (Randy) Culbertson Berthoud, CO; Jolynn (Steve) Clark Piedmont, SD; Loretta (Zeke) Pacella Windsor, CO; Suzanna (Scott) Sliski Ft. Collins, CO; Tonya (Tim) Allen Hardwick; MN, Trista(Brad) Lane Meridian, ID; Sheila Letcher Loveland, CO; twenty grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, one sister Patricia (Don) LaFrenz Luverne, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents Everett and Viola Letcher; stepmother Vera Letcher; great grandson Nick Parra; three sisters, Elaine (Ivan) Else, Delorus (James) Anderson, Carol (Norm) Olson; and two brothers, Noelan, Lester and James Letcher. Dingmann Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Luverne, is assisting the family with arrangements.
