Following many years of illness and intense suffering, Harry Wilkins, 51, passed away Saturday night at Galesburg Cottage Hospital where he had been a patient since last Wednesday. Thursday morning, Mr. Wilkins submitted to a major operation in the hopes of prolonging his life but he failed to rally from the shock and after great suffering, death came as a relief.
Mr. Wilkins had been a great sufferer tho a patient one for many years. During his life, he submitted to 10 operations.
Funeral services were held at LaFayette M. E. Church. Rev. Selden Myers, pastor of the church, was in charge.
Members of the Masonic Lodge served as body-bearers as follows: Herbert Kaser, J. W. Morrell, Willilam Meaker, William Almgren, John McKirgan and Bert Sweat.
Harry Wilkins was born at Williamsfield August 28, 1883, and passed away March 7, 1936, at the age of 51 years, six months and eight days. April 12, 1920, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Sanders, of north of LaFayette. To this union were born four children, as follows; Francis, Russell, Bonnie, Maxine, all of whom survive, together with the widow.
He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Susie Hochstrasser of Urbana, and one brother, James Wilkins, of LaFayette. Another sister, Mrs. Jonas Elburg, preceded him in death.
Mr. Wilkins was a member of Stark Lodge No. 501, AF & AM, and was also a member of LaFayette M. E. Church.
