José "Che" E. Martinez, age , 68, a resident of El Guache, NM, passed away on July 28, 2020.
José was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Trinidad Martínez, brothers, Pablo and Elesio Martínez, sister, Josephine Trujillo, brother-in-law, José "Joe" Trujillo, nephew, Pablito Martínez, father-in-law, Napoleon Salazar, mother-in-law, Helen Salazar and great-granddaughter, Erin Martínez.
José was born in Fairview, NM to Leo and Trinidad Martínez on March 20, 1952. José was the youngest of seven children.
Che married the love of his life, Esther, on February 21, 1971, they were blessed with four beautiful children, Joey, Everett, Daniel and Geraldine. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest treasure. Che cherished the moments when he had them all together under one roof. Che loved to joke and have fun with everyone around, making nicknames for family and friends such as Cuppie, Gampi, Tweela, Plungy, Cherry, Birdie, Bob and Sweeper to name a few.
He enjoyed listening to music, especially the oldies and Spanish, dancing, playing the saxophone with his family and friends, going to the casino and ALWAYS being by Esther’s side.
Che was a tough but gentleman, who never gave up, always found a way. Che will forever and always be loved, remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
In his passing, Che is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Esther Martínez, their children, José E. Martinez Jr.(Canisha), Everett Martínez and his wife, Eliza, Geraldine Ortiz and her husband, Lawrence and Daniel Martínez, grandchildren, Ayesha Martínez (Kenny), Patricia Martínez (Matthew), Martín Martínez (Genesis), Jeremiah Martínez, Joseph Martínez and Caleb Ortiz and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kayden and Kamerynn Trujillo. Che leaves behind his brothers, Tony Martínez and his wife, Mary, Frutoso Martínez and his wife, Bernice, Belamino Martínez and his wife, Lita, sisters-In-law, Connie Martínez, Ellena Martínez and her husband, Leon and Debbie Salazar, brothers-in-law, Johnny Salazar and his wife, Josefina, Fernando Salazar, Gerald Salazar and his wife, Eunice and only surviving aunt, Benny Gonzáles, of Dixon, NM. Godchildren whom he never forgot, Leo Maestas, Stephanie Martínez, Steven Padilla, Danielle Martínez and Adam Martínez, as well as many other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends from both the Martínez and Padilla families whom he loved very much.
Services are pending and will be posted once they become available. The following serving as pallbearers will be, Martín, Jeramiah, Joseph, Caleb and Kayden. The family would like to express their gratitude to Erica, Kris and Emily with Giving Company for your care, to the staff at CHRISTUS Saint Vincent Hospital intensive care COVID unit for your endless comfort, courage, hope, tenderness, patience and love, while taking care of Che, Deacon Jack for your prayers and support, Becky Brandon, CHRISTUS Saint Vincent Hospital Patient Advocate, for giving us all the knowledge possible through his COVID-19 journey and ensuring that we were aware of what was going on at all times, to all the family and friends for your love, thoughts, prayers, encouragement and contributions.
