Last rites for Mrs. Martha Hill Talbert, one of Winona's most beloved citizens, were held at the Trewolla Funeral home on Saturday morning, March 22nd, at 10:30 with Rev. R. S. Lowe, Presbyterian minister, officiating. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery family Plot. Mrs. Talbert died after a long illness on the morning of March 21st in Memphis, where she had lived for the past three years. Previously she made her hone in Marks, Miss., for two years, with her daughter, Mrs. Mark Lowery.
She was born April 11, 1867, on the family plantation near Winona, the daughter of Elizabeth Witty Hill and Dr. Samuel Hill, prominent pioneer physician. Most of her life was spent in Winona, where she was active in every phase of community life until her health failed six years ago.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. L. P. Jones of Memphis, and Mrs. Mark Lowery of Marks; two grandsons, Walter Blackstone Lowery and Mark Perrin Lowery, both students in Paris ,France, and one sister, Mrs. Annie Lou Robinson of Memphis. She was also a sister of the late Shedric Hill, well known statesman and U. S. Congressman.
