Avon Box-Gilmore, 65, of Rockford, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, July 18, 2020. Born July 3, 1955 in Little Rock, AR. Daughter of Robert and Bessie (Craig) Brownlee. United in marriage to Thomas Gilmore on May 31, 1984 in Rockford after having met while she worked at the Mayflower Restaurant. Avon retired from Pierce Packaging after several years. Together with Tom, they were foster parents to 50 plus children since the late 1980’s. Avon had a heart so big that she loved to share that with her family, friends and her foster children. She was loved by everyone who knew her. Avon loved to play in the dirt tending to her gardens and flowers.

She is lovingly survived by her husband of 36 years, Thomas; children, Amy Box, Margo Box, Sarah Logan, Samuel Gilmore; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Betty (Maurice) Washington, Elaine Gibson, Kenny Brownlee, Mirchelle (Charles) Everett, Vernita Everett, Valerie Buckley; several nieces and nephews who were all a special part of her life; several special friends to many to list. Predeceased by her parents; brother, Randolph Brownlee; brothers-in-law, Melvin Gibson and Greg Buckley. Special Thanks to Heartland Hospice.
