Early Monday morning the people of our community were again saddened on hearing of the sudden death of another one of our good citizens who has gone to serve God in the better world. The death of Mr. Houdek robs Fort Atkinson of a kind father, a faithful friend and a good neighbor. He passed away at the home of his daughter Mrs. Anton Sabelka at the age of 82 years. He was born in Paseky #27, Bohemia and came to America at the age of nine years, settling near Calmar, Iowa. In 1857, he was married to Anna Schneberger, the ceremony taking place in Festina, Iowa. After five years, they moved to a farm near Fort Atkinson. The union was blessed with eight children, two dying in infancy. Those who survived are Laura (Houdek) Sabelka; John; Anna; Joseph and Thomas Houdek, of Fort Atkinson; and Mary (Houdek) Michelac of Waterloo; who with the bereaved wife mourn his departure. Requiem high mass for the repose of his soul will was held at St. Johns Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. ~Taken from the Winneshiek County Newspaper
