Mabel K. Pierce, 90, of Alta died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 18, 1990) at Parkhill Medical Complex in Chillicothe.

Born Jan. 31, 1900, at Alta to Albert and Laura Shaw Kent, she married Homer L. Pierce on Oct. 4, 1930, in Peoria. He died on June 14, 1973, in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by three brothers and an infant sister.

She is survived by one son, Larry of Falls Church, Va., and a granddaughter, Pitzy Pierce of Clearwater, Fla.

She attended the former Bradley Polytechnic Institute, and later taught for 25 years in rural Peoria County schools, including Tucker School. She retired from Mossville Elementary; School in 1965. She also worked as a greeter at the former Exposition Gardens Old Time Museum.

She was active in various PTA organizations while teaching, and was a member of the Alta Grange, Illinois State Grange and the Alta Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

She was an active member of the Alta Presbyterian Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hammitt Funeral Home in Princeville, with the Rev. Perry Tudor officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mount Hawley Cemetery in Peoria.
