A FATAL SHOT.
Samuel Travis and his son. of Furnace Woods. Westchester county, were digging post holes on his farm on the 22 of last month, when two hunters, named William Hyatt and Frederick Lent, with dogs and guns, came up and engaged Travis in a conversation. The dogs soon got into a fight, and in trying to separate them Lent used the butt of his gun for a club, and at the first blow he struck the animal the weapon discharged, the load entering Travis' leg, shattering the Bone necessitating amputation, Yesterday Travis died.

Death from Lockjaw
Mr. Samuel Travis, of Furnace Woods, in this town, whose serious injury from the accidental discharge of a gun in the hands of Fred Lent, of Montrose, two weeks ago, which was duly reported in these columns, and whose leg was amputated two days after the injury was received, died on Monday afternoon last in great agony, lockjaw having set in on Saturday. Before his death Mr. Travis sent for Mr. Lent and in the presence of his family stated that he exonerated Mr. Lent from all blame in the case; that the j affair was purely accidental. Mr. Travis was about 48 years of age and leaves a wife and seven children, the eldest, a son of twenty.
