Cynthia was the daughter of John H. and Sally Lowe (Greer) McGowen. She was the sister of Artimitia, Susan Jane McGowen Parham, Elizabeth Rachel McGowen Marion, Mary Ellen McGowen Williamson, James Greer McGowen I, Robert Searcy McGowen, Martha McGowen Myers and John H. McGowen II.

Brothers James and Robert both served on the Confederate side during the American Civil War as soldiers of the 9th and 10th Mississippi Infrantries. James was injured in the Battle of Franklin and went on to become a highly decorated war hero. Sadly, Robert perished shortly after enlisting. [Edit Bio]
