NORA SYLVESTIA ADKINS, was born November 28, 1892 in what is now Kingston, Marshall County, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of eight children born to Andrew Jackson Adkins and Olevia Jane Ward.

She had vivid memories of her father's untimely death as a result of a boiler explosion at his cotton gin. Nora, Bessie (her sister) and their mother heard the explosion that was in hearing distance of the home near Enos, Indian Territory (now Oklahoma).

After the death of her father, Nora lived at home with her mother and older sisters until her marriage to James Porter Anderson on December 22, 1912, at Weaverton, Marshall County, Oklahoma.

Nora did not work outside of the home. She devoted her entire adult life to being a homemaker, and mother to her three children, Ada Marie, Arnold Jackson, and James Porter, Jr. She was active in the Methodist Church and in the church ladies groups. She was also active in the Shawnee, Oklahoma, Flower and Garden Club. All of her family connections were very important to her. She kept in close communication with her brothers and sisters, uncles, aunts, and cousins until her death May 1, 1975, at Shawnee, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma.

She is buried next to her husband, in the Resthaven Cemetery, east of Shawnee, Oklahoma.
