Evangeline M. (Ruel) Roy, age 94, passed away on May 24, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born on October 4, 1925 in St Charles-de-Bellechasse, Quebec, Canada, a daughter of the late Phileas and Leda (Asselin) Ruel. Evangeline was a communicant of the former Assumption Parish and also Mary Mother of Hope Parish. She owned her own knitting business in Canada for 6 years and was co-owner of the Country Trading Post off Burnett Rd in Chicopee for many years before she retired in 1987. She was a Franco American Club past president and loyal member. She is predeceased by her first husband, Roger J. Roy, who passed away in 1984 and by her second husband Roger Ritchott who passed away in 2006. She is survived by her son Carl Roy and his wife Llanor of Chicopee; 4 daughters, Helene Demers and her husband Yves of Vero Beach, FL, Patricia Roy of Melbourne Beach, FL, Gail Cunliffe of Belchertown, Kimberly Dion and her husband Robert of Chicopee; her brother, Gerald Ruel of Easthampton; 10 beloved grandchildren, Jason Balut, Craig Balut, Jennifer Arteaga, Matthew Balut, Nicole Cunliffe, Nathan Roy, Sondra Laskowski, Justin Roy, Ashley Dion, Kyle Dion along with 13 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Irena and Walter Szarek for the care and love that they gave to «Grandma» over the past 2 ½ years. Many thanks to Linda Mauri, Phil and Nancy Hamre, Tracy Dobosz, Belinda Lareau and Jeremy Adkins for helping out when the family needed it. Thank you, Ross Lafreniere for checking on Grandma every day, and to the employees and customers of the Country Trading Post, past and present, for making her life so complete. Family and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass on Monday, June 1, 2020 in St Rose de Lima Church followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery. The Grise Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
