Dr. Edwin Buxton and his wife moved to Vinton in 1892. He practiced veterinary medicine for 50 years, until his death of a heart attack, while treating a cow on the Carlson farm, on Nov 15, 1940.
He served as a city councilman from 1898, until 1905 when he began serving as mayor. He was mayor until 1911 and was mayor again from 1925 to 1928. He served on the Vinton school board as president for 22 years.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Howard Stark Buxton of Cedar Rapids and Henry Buxton of Vinton.
