From the Daily Herald of October 29.
Death of Mrs. E. T. McFarland.

Neighboring households were sorely grieved this morning to hear of the death of Mrs. E. T. McFarland, which occurred at the residence of her son-in-law, W. C. Child, at an early hour today. The decease of this estimable lady, while possibly not apprehended to happen so suddenly or soon, was an event not altogether unexpected by those to whom she was nearest and dearest, who have tenderly and lovingly administered to her bodily infirmities through the weeks that have confined her to a bed of sickness. The sad news, as it passed from the sorrowing home through the city, touched other hearts than family or kindred that felt and shared their bereavement. Mrs. McFarland's age was little more than 64 years. She was born in Hamilton, Butler county, Ohio, September 11, 1822. Her married life was largely spent in Lafayette, Tippecanoe county, Indiana, where her husband for many years was the head of one of the leading business houses of the Wabash valley. Following the death of Mr. McFarland, she removed to Montana and for a number of years has made her home with her only daughter, Mrs. Child. No nobler woman ever lived or won the love of family, the respect of friends, the esteem of neighbors and acquaintances. Her memory is enshrined in many hearts and there it will remain until the final messenger stills them as her own.

(Page 7):
The funeral of Mrs. E. T. McFarland took place from St. Peter's church yesterday (Sunday) with a great attendance of neighbors and family people of Helena. The services were impressively conducted by the rector, Rev. F. T. Webb, according to the Episcopal form. Many friends gathered before the services at the residence of Mr. Child, where they viewed the remains. The features of the deceased looked natural in their quiet repose. The richly draped casket was profusely covered with trailing vines and beautiful autumn wreaths, with exquisite pieces in flowerwork - special among these being a tastefully wrought pillow, basket, cross, cycle and other designs. In the long procession to the cemetery were seen nearly all the principal families of the city, and at the grave was gathered a great concourse to pay their last sad tribute of respect to the lamented dead. Peace to the ashes of one of the best beloved of earth.
