RAMEY – Services will be held Thursday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Ramey, for John Maurice “Pen” Hoffman of Ramey, who died Sunday, April 25, 1999 at Clearfield Hospital. The Rev. Dale Russell will officiate. Interment will be in Bald Eagle Cemetery.
Masonic services will be held Wednesday in the funeral home with Osceola Mills Lodge No. 515 F&AM.
Born March 6, 1913 in Ramey, he was the son of William F. and Hattie (Balling) Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman retired on April 25, 1978 from the Pa. State Department of General Services, where he was employed as a construction inspector. Prior to that, he was employed as a factory worker for Spang Chalfort Steel Mill, Ambridge; Curtis Wright Quehanna and HRB Singer, State College, where he worked as a first class machinist.
He was a member of Ramey United Methodist Church, life member of the Ramey Fire Co., a member of Osceola Mills Lodge No. 515 F&AM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, State College; United Commercial Travelers: past Sunday School superintendent for the Ramey United Methodist Church; past secretary of the Ramey School Board; past Ramey Borough Council member; and a former semi-pro baseball player.
In March 1940 in Wellsburg, W.Va., he married the former Jessie Richey. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Mrs. James (Virginia) Dziadosz and Kathleen Moulton; sister, Bertha Fulton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Joyce; brothers, Ernest and William and sisters, Julia and Gertrude.
