Married Nancy Catherine Hendrickson on March 12, 1868 in Johnson County, Indiana.

The Franklin Democrat (Franklin, IN) 4 Sep 1891 (Friday, pg. 3)
Bert Chandler, a teamster in the employ of Maley's saw mill, met with an accident while hauling logs on Wednesday which resulted in instant death.

He, together with several other teamsters, was hauling logs from the vicinity of Banta near the Morgan county line. To ascend a steep hill it was found necessary to attach a block and tackle to the wagon in order that the horses might have a secure foothold at the top of the hill. Chandler was following the wagon for the purpose of chocking it with a rail when the chain broke letting the heavily loaded wagon down the hil. In its descent it struck the rail held by Chandler which in turn struck him in the breast with terrific force, killing him almost instantly. He was brought to this city during the evening and an inquest held upon the remains.

Chandler was a married man with a large family depending upon him for support. He was an old soldier and a member of the G.A.R.post. The funeral occurred yesterday evening.
