Bert was born on December 11, 1927, in Marengo, Iowa, to John and Pearl (Aiken) Roberts. He graduated from St. Johns in Victor, Iowa.
Bert joined the Marine Corps in September 1946, and discharged in 1948. He was called back to service in 1950 to go to Korea where he was injured and discharged in 1951, receiving a Purple Heart.
In 1952 Bert married Betty Peska at the Bethany Church in Belle Plaine. They were the parents of two children, Tom and Brenda. He worked at Farmstead in Cedar Rapids for 29 years, retiring in 1989. Following retirement, Bert worked part time for Funk’s and mowed grass.
Bert enjoyed gardening, mowing, fishing in Canada, and spending time with family. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Belle Plaine.
Bert is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Tom (Audrey) Roberts of Atkins, Brenda (Mike) Sweet of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Ryan and Kelsey Sweet, Kyle, Matt and Rachel Miller; great-grandchildren, Noah, Connor, Karlie, McKenna, Britley, Noah, and Micah; brother, Cecil and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Richard, and Harry; and sisters, Ora Roberts and Ann Baetsle.
