AN AGED PIONEER GONE TO HIS FINAL REST
John Coffey., for many years a respected resident of Columbia, dies in his home in that town last Friday after an illness extending over many months. He was aged 75 years and is survived by three daughters, Mrs Sherman Wetmore of Columbia and Mrs Andrew Ortega of Black Diamond and one who resides in Stockton [Mrs Frank Edwards]. The funeral occurred Monday morning in Sonora, mass being said in the Catholic Church and internment being made in the Mtn View Cemetery. A representative of the Dardanelle Parlor No 66 NDGW attended as the mark of respect for the pioneer.
The deceased arrived in Tuolumne County in 1858 and settled in Columbia and ever since has made his home there.
