Carol M. Ferra, 74, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away at 7:34 A.M. on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg.
She was born December 28, 1947 in Knox County, Illinois, the daughter of Luther and Alta Jane (White) Zimmerman.
Carol was married to Glen Brooks in Cuba, Illinois. Together they had two children, Christopher Brooks and Audrey Surface. She later married William Brahsers in Missouri. They also had two children, BJ and Andy Brashers.
Survivors include her children: Audrey Surface of Plainfield, Indiana, BJ Brashers of West-Point, Missouri, and Andy (Carla) Brashers of Springfield, Missouri; best friend and cousin, Ruthie Thomason of Galesburg; six siblings: Dean (Megan) Zimmerman of Venango, Pennsylvania, Lee Zimmerman of Prague, Nebraska, Burl Zimmerman of Arkansas, Loretta (Bill) Carlee of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Phyllis (Otho) Miller of Peoria, Illinois, and Mary (Richard) Keine of Cuba, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bernard Zimmerman; two sisters: Marge Applebee and Jo Gustafson; and one son, Christopher Brooks.
Carol loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed to sew and cross stitch. She had a wonderful sense of humor, but was most known for her stubborn, hard head. The sound of her laugh was music to everyone’s ears. We love you, Carol, you stubborn ole bitty!
Cremation rites will be accorded. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a memorial of the donor’s choice. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home & Crematory of Knoxville, Illinois is assisting the family with arrangements.
