Leantha Paddock was born at Thetford, Vermont, March 10, 1815. Her maiden name was Hovey. She was the third daughter of a family of eleven children. Her mother died in 1837, and subsequently the family moved by wagon to Wisconsin and settled on a farm near Darlington. Leantha, after the death of her mother, became practically the female head of the family, and upon her fell the care and management of her younger brothers and sisters. How well she discharged this service is one of the cherished traditions of the family.
The deceased was a woman of warm sympathies, excellent judgement, and next to the mother who bore them, is credited by her brothers and sisters with making a happy home for their childhood and youth.
She was united in marriage with Ormond Paddock July 27, 1849. Two children, Francis and William, were born to them, both of whom are living. Francis is now Mrs. S.S. Driver, of Madison, and William is living in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
