Buford Marion Appleman, known by most as Hap, entered his eternal rest on 2April 2020. He finished his race at the age of 94. He was born in Fullerton, Calif on 20 May 1925, and grew up there with his younger brother, Arnold. He enjoyed varsity tennis at Fullerton Jr. College until signing up with the air force for WWII. When stationed at Bergstrom AFB in Austin, he met and later married, Virginia Maufrais. From this time forward Hap was a Texan by choice. After receiving his BBA in Industrial Management at the Univ of Texas, he worked in senior management with Texas Foundries, Douglas Oil, Taylor Machines, and Crane Carrier Corp. He established his own company, Applemanagement Inc. and built a successful career in consulting for the construction industry.

Over 72 years of marriage, Hap and Ginny raised 2 daughters; Vicki Fitzhugh (David) and Susan Scherwitz (Tom). Hap adored his family, loved his church, and delighted in tennis, swimming, playing bridge, and travel. Hap had a passion for mentoring young entrepreneurs and helping others accomplish their goals. He was honored by SCORE for over 15 years of service and was recognized as a Senior Olympian in tennis.

Most of all he enjoyed taking grandchildren on summer trips and spending beach time with the whole family. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands; 3 grandchildren Joshua Fitzhugh (spouse Jessica), Matt Scherwitz (spouse Amanda), Katy Fitzgold (spouse Travis); and 6 great grandchildren Kylie, Kinley, Cooper, T.J., Avery, and Sage.

We thank our University United Methodist Church family for all of the love, visits, and prayers, along with the staff at Shavano Park Assisted Living and New Century Hospice for your love and care.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at UUMC on 03 December 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, consider a contribution to the Foundation at University United Methodist Church.
