He had made his home in Jacksonville since he was superannuated 3 years ago. Rev. Burke had held pastorates at many churches among the Texas districts of the Methodist Church. He was pastor of the Thorndale charge, something like a quarter of a century ago. He had visited Thorndale frequently in his daughter's (Mrs. T.F. Locklin) home and seemed still a part of this community. He was beloved of all who knew him for his kindliness, his cheerfulness, his passionate earnestness in helping others, his great joy in friendships.
SURVIVORS: Wife; son, Clyde Burke of Jacksonville; daughter, Mrs. T.F. Locklin of Thorndale and 7 grandchildren. A niece, Mrs. Mary A Duncan of the Duncan community also survives. Mrs. Locklin and husband went to Jacksonville early last week to see her father, but injuries from an accident prevented her from attending the funeral. James Lee Locklin and sister, Edna Earle Locklin, went to Jacksonville, Friday, to be there for the funeral Saturday morning at 10:00.
