Patrick Smith died 8 Dec 1906. As part of the Smith family history as told by Michael Smith, Maggie feared being sent off to school as was done with Philip and Michael, her brothers. They were sent to school in Waco, Tx. Not wanting to leave San Augustine, Maggie married her beau, Bud Sublett on 16 Dec 1906 and thus got to stay in San Augustine. Her sister, Kate also married in order to stay in SA.
One of her five children was Kathryn Letitia "Teddie" Sublett, married to Steve Hicks, who has possession of the Patrick Smith bible or at least she did in 1998.
Maggie is buried on the west side of the Smith section adjacent to husband Philip with a joint tombstone.

Margaretta Smith was born in San Augustine Texas on June 7, 1887. She married Phillip Sublett in Dec 1906. They lived on a large Sublett plantation and raised cattle and horses. The old Sublett home was built before Texas Independence and frequently visited by General Sam Houston. They resided all their lives in San Augustine. Philip Sublett died Mar 29, 1947 and Margaretta Sublett died in 1953.
They had five children:
1) Mary Mangan married to Col. Walter Mangan and resides in San Augustine, Texas
2) Margaretta Lanier, who died Nov 19, 1937. Her husband and son live in Jasper, Texas.
3) Phillip "Buster" Sublett married to Jean Sublett, they reside in Kirbyville, Texas
4) Henry Sublett married to Jane Sublett. They have 4 children and live in the old Sublett home in San Augustine.
5) Laticia Hicks lives in Palos Verdes, Calif.
NOTE: The "old Sublett home" is on Hwy 21, about two miles east of the Smith/Catholic cemetery, on the north side of the hwy. It is a two story, white, frame house. The Sublett Cemetery is located on the property.
