PLATTEVILLE - Ruth Cordes, age 85, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Platteville, died on Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at the Bixby Knolls Nursing Home, Long Beach. She was born on July 19, 1919, in Platteville, the daughter of John Henry and Ada V. (Baker) Brogley. She was united in marriage to Frederick William Cordes, in Platteville. He preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 1970. Ruth taught school for 16 years at the Big Patch School. She loved Irish Setters, and was a member of the Irish Setters Club of America. She is survived by a son, Jon (Suzanne) Cordes of Seal Beach, Calif.; special friend, Dr, Robert Helferty of Grand Blanc, Mich.; and a niece, Annabelle Brunton of Platteville. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and two brothers. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at the BENDORF FUNERAL HOME, Platteville. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. The Rev. Barbara Dunlap will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home or from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. The Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, is serving the family.
