Joe Benge was born at Greenleaf on February 2, 1937 to Ross and Florence (Hutching) Benge. He passed away on March 2, 2020 at his residence in Hulbert.

At the age of 4 years old he and his family moved to the Norwood area by a team and wagon. He attended Norwood through the 8th grade finishing in 1950.

Joe entered the US Air Force at the age of 17, serving 3 ½ years. Following his honorable discharge he married Della Rogers in Tahlequah over 60 years ago. He began a career at Fort Gibson Dam transferring to Locke and Dam 17 on the Verdigris River. He retired after 32 years of employment.

Joe enjoyed attending sporting events of all his children and their offspring. He enjoyed any and everything that was "family" oriented. He loved singing and you could hear him humming constantly. When traveling he would veer off the main blacktop and take the scenic route. He helped the neighbors and would use items from the garage as if they were family. His family and friends were very important to him and Joe showed them all in his personal way.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Ross and Florence (Hutching) Benge; four siblings, Lucille Edwards, Jimmie Huff, Theadore Benge and Joann Benge; his nephew Franklin ( Bub) Jenkins; sons-in-law Steve Reed and Richard Rhodes.

He is survived by his wife, Della Benge of the home; daughters, Kathy Davis and husband Terry, and Angie Reed-Rhodes; four siblings, Louise Biggs, Saundra Simmons, Judy Allison and Bill Benge and wife Dorothy; two grandchildren; five great grandsons; two great granddaughters; seven great great grandchildren; and many other friends and loved ones.

Funeral services are 10:00 am Saturday March 6, 2020 at Green Country Funeral Home. Officiating will be brother Bobby Botts. Interment will follow in the Holland Cemetery under the care of Green Country Funeral Home.
