United States Army Retired. Joe was a loving and caring husband, father of two and grandfather of four. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kathryn Anne Strickland.. He will be missed by his family who loved and cared for him deeply.


JOSEPH V. STRICKLAND passed away at his home on July 30, 2007. Loving husband of Ruth E. Strickland; father of Wayne (Laura) Strickland and David (Terri) Strickland; grandfather of Jennifer (Jay) Ollom, Erin Strickland and Michael Strickland; brother of Melvin and Dorothy; uncle of Joe Bell. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathryn Strickland. Visitation Thursday, August 2 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at LEE FUNERAL HOME, Branch Ave. and Coventry Way, Clinton, MD, where service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

Joseph Valentine Strickland, 78, of Charlotte Hall died July 30, 2007, at his home.

Born Nov. 1, 1928, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Rudolph and the late Laura Strickland.

Mr. Strickland served in the U.S. Army for three years in World War II, stationed in Japan. After leaving regular service he served for the U.S. Army Reserves for 30 years and retired Feb. 1, 1980. While serving in the Reserves he worked full time for the Library of Congress in the copyright office. He retired in 1984. He enjoyed time and activities with his three grandchildren. He also enjoyed working in his garden and trying to find ways to outsmart the squirrels in his bird feeders.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 siblings and his granddaughter, Kathryn Anne Strickland.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth; sons, Wayne and his wife, Laura, and David and his wife, Terri; brother, Melvin; sister, Dorothy; grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Jay Ollom, Erin and Michael Strickland; and niece and nephew, Kathy Dalrymple and Joe Bell.
Visitation was held Aug. 2 at Lee Funeral Home, Clinton, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 3. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton.
