Roland was a victim in the shipwreck of the Steamer Clifton on Sunday, September 21 or Monday September 22, 1924 - Lake Huron.

He served as oiler on the Clifton and lived in Escanaba, Michigan with his wife Pearl and young child.

Roland was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Writt of Sturgeon Bay, Door, Wisconsin.
He married Miss Pearl Gary of Escanaba, Michigan in 1922. They were the parents of an 11 month old baby son named Roland.
