A funeral for Willard Marshall Abel, 59, of Spotsylvania County, owner of Specialty Gun Works and former owner of Abel's Gun Shop, was held at 2 p.m. today at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Spotsylvania Chapel. Burial with military honors was held in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Ed Allison, Harvey Walsh, Clinton Campbell, Gary Campbell, John Neal and Darin Canon.
Mr. Abel died Friday, Feb. 21, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond.
An Army veteran, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Moose Lodge No. 1655, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3103 and life member of the National Rifle Association. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 55.
Mr. Abel is survived by his wife, Marge Ester Abel; one stepson, Carvey J. Hoffman Jr. of Culpeper; two stepdaughters, Deborah Elaine Liller of Orange, Calif., and Angela Doren Moser of Van Nuys, Calif.; his mother, Frankie M. Abel of Fredericksburg; three brothers, James and John Abel, both of Spotsylvania, and William Abel of Stafford County; three sisters, Ruby Morgan of Spotsylvania, Hazel Hayes of Fredericksburg and Mary Jones of Stafford; three stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society of Spotsylvania, c/o Hazel W. Faulconer, 6881 Courthouse Road, Spotsylvania, Va. 22553.
