Mr. Abel was a licensed master plumber for many years. He loved bluegrass music and played numerous instruments especially the banjo.
Mr. Abel was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Anne Abel; parents Clifton and Frankie Abel; five sisters; and six brothers.
Survivors include his children, Wanda Atkins (David), Debbie Newton (Norman) and Ken Abel; grandchildren Missy (Tom), Daniel, Ashley, Lori, Shelby and Tyler; great-granddaughter Lindsey Stone; brother John Abel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 19 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 20 at the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
