He was baptized in early infancy and was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, Hebron, on May 23, 1926.
He received his education in the rural schools around Chester and attended the Hebron Academy for one year at Hebron. He also took a course in auctioneering at Decatur, Ill.
He was united in marriage to Edna Ruth Reitz on February 5, 1942, and to this union three daughters, Mary Ann, Nancy and Jolene; and one son, Roland, were born.
He moved to Chester in 1927, from a farm north of Chester. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Chester and had served in various offices in the church. He was a past president of the Chester Community Club and had served as a chairman and member of the village board of Chester.
He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Saxton Post No. 180, American Legion of Hebron. He was a farmer and former manager of the Boettcher Enterprises of Chester.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Edna; one son, Roland of LaMesa, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Diamond and Mrs. Nancy Thompson, both of Omaha and Mrs. Jolene Briscoe of Kansas City, Mo.; eight sisters, Mrs. Emma Meyer of Chester, Mrs. Flora Taylor of Durango, Colo., Mrs. Viola Taylor of Cortez, Colo., Mrs. Lydia Willerton of Lancaster, Calif., Mrs. Irene Rice of Corona Del Mar, Calif., Mrs. Rosa Schukar of Lincoln, Mrs. Aileen Bonjour of Olathe, Kan. and Mrs. Bernice Barbee, Hebron; one brother, Wilbur Rossmiller of Durango, Colo.; five grandchildren, Tammy Morgan, Brian Diamond, Matthew and Sarah Rossmiller and Leslie Briscoe; several other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. September 12 at St. John Lutheran Church of Chester, conducted by the Rev. Donald Porter. Graveside services were conducted by the Saxton Post No. 180, American Legion of Hebron. Interment was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
