Veteran Dies
A Confederate Veteran, John Bowers, died January 21, 1937 near Mt. Solon, Va. He was born and reared at Sugar Grove, Va. (Now W.Va.) He was one of the volunteers that served in the cause of the South. Following the war he spent most of his life here in Doe Hill, and nearby. He reached the age of 96 years. He is survived by two or three sons somewhere in the west. The quiet and peaceful life he lived was worthy of imitation. The funeral and burial was at Sugar Grove January 23.

John Bowers while working on a saw mill last week was struck in the head by a lever on the carriage. At first it was thought he was seriously injured but he is recovering.

John Bowers, an aged resident of our village, met with a painful accident last Sunday. He is sexton at the church, and town hall where the primary department of the Sunday School is held. On coming out of the Hall he slipped and fell to the ground, fracturing his hip. Dr. Stover was called, and made him as comfortable as was possible under the circumstances, though he suffered intensely Sunday night and yesterday, he rested well last night, and his condition is more favorable today.

John Bowers received a message Sunday from Sugar Grove, stating that his brother, Amos Bowers had died suddenly, having been paralyzed. Mr. Bowers went to Sugar Grove yesterday, to attend the funeral.

John Bowers, an aged citizen of Doe Hill, met with a painful accident about two weeks ago. While working on a sawmill he was struck in the head by a lever on the carriage, and it was thought at first that he was seriously injured, but he is recovering. His brother, George Bowers, of Brandywine, W Va., spent a few days with him last week. Emory Malcom is visiting his mother, Mrs. John Bowers.
