William served in Civil War, Union, Private, Company F, 1st Reg VA/WV Infantry.
He enlisted May 16, 1861 for 3 mons in Capt Park's Company Foot Volunteers. Since his stone has dates 1861-64, he may have served in a different Company and Reg after initial 3 mons.

William and Mary appear on the 1870 census, Wheeling, where he works in brick yard and with their children Mannie 5, James 4 and Anna E 1.
