She was born at the Cedar Grove Plantation at Borodino on the Bayou des Glaises, several miles above Bordelonville, in Avoyelles Parish. The Cedar Grove Plantation was originally the plantation of her maternal grandfather, Leon François Gauthier II (b. 1822), an important local official who had served as Justice of the Peace, a member of the Police Jury, Parish Tax Collector, Sheriff and a member of the State Legislature before the War.
About 1894, she moved with her parents and siblings to Lake Charles, where she remained the rest of her life, never marrying. She died at the age of 55 on 08 July 1925 at St. Patrick's Hospital in Lake Charles, and was buried in Orange Grove (Graceland) Cemetery.
