Estelle Eunice Goudeau was born 31 Jan 1886 in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, the eighth child of the eleven children born to Pierre Floreval Goudeau (1845-1927) and Eugenie Estelle Gauthier (1851-1918), both natives of Avoyelles Parish and members of two well-known families there. All the girls in her family had nicknames, and she was known among her siblings as "Tetons" (the French pronunciation is "Tetohn.")

From about 1870, the Pierre F. Goudeau family lived in the area of Borodino at the Cedar Grove Plantation, the home of Leon Gauthier, father of Eugenie Estelle Goudeau. The home was on the south side of the Bayou Road that ran alongside Bayou des Glaises. Pierre F. Goudeau farmed the land, and owned and operated a store along the Bayou. He moved his family to Lake Charles about 1894.

In Lake Charles, the Goudeau family lived in a large home at 328 Hodges Street, where they rented rooms to boarders. The 1900 Census shows both her parents, all eleven children (ages 5 through 28), and twelve others, mostly boarders, living in their large two-story home.

Estelle married on Wednesday, 4 Nov 1908, to Joseph Spencer Normand of Orange, Orange County, Texas. The Normand family was also originally from Avoyelles Parish. Estelle and Joseph were cousins, as her paternal grandparents were his maternal great-grandparents. Joseph and Estelle had three children: Spencer Raphael (1909-1982), Doris Marie (1911-1999), and Pierre Goudeau (1918-1984), all born in Lake Charles.

Their first home in Lake Charles was at 331 East Street. They made room in their home for Estelle's sisters, Blanche and Virginia "Virgie," and Samuel Green (Virgie's son). But, by 1926, they had moved to New Orleans, and lived at 618 No. Carrollton Avenue. Sometime prior to 1930, they moved again, this time to Fort Worth, Texas, where they lived at 2700 College Avenue. They are listed at this address in the 1930 and 1940 Census. Estelle's sister, "Nany" Blanche Goudeau made her home with them until her death in 1961.

The family eventually moved to another home nearby at 2736 South Adams, where they remained the rest of their lives. Estelle's children and grandchildren, who called her "Dear," were blessed to live in the same town, and were always welcome in her home. Her kitchen always had the wonderful smells of her Louisiana recipes, chicory coffee and that of her husband Joe's cigars.

At the time of her death, in 1975, Estelle was survived by three children, ten of her eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two sisters: Mercedes Ann Goudeau (Mrs. Thos. K. McCroskey of Lake Charles) and Mabel "Bobbie" Goudeau (Mrs. Clarence L. Morel) of Port Arthur.

On Wednesday evening, 12 Nov 1975, a rosary was led by Rev. Meinrad Marbaugh, O.S.B., at Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was conducted at 10AM, Thursday, 13 Nov, by Rev. Andrew Wewer, O.S.B., at St. Mary the Assumption Catholic Church in Fort Worth. Pallbearers included her three grandsons, Patrick Shaw, Pierre G. Normand, Jr., and Joseph R. Normand; a great-grandson, Michael Miller; and two granddaughter's husbands, Michael Grant and A. L. Buddy Miller.
