Fred "Popeye" Watson, 73, 702 Ruddle Ave., died Tuesday at St. John's Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Anderson, where he lived most of his life. He resided in Florida at one time and was a retired service station manager.

He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Muncie, Chief Anderson Lions Club and was an Army veteran.

Survivors include a son, Douglas W. Watson of Alexandria; a daughter, Mrs. Mick (Sheila) Brinker of Orestes; two stepsons, Eric Boggs, both of Anderson; five sisters, Mrs. Sam (Patty) Muncy, Mrs. Harold (Jeanette) Faulds, Mrs. Walter (Ramona) Corbin and Mrs. Herbert(Mary) Hollenback, all of Anderson, and Betty Swift of Valparaiso; two brothers Wiliam Watson and Thomas Watson, both of Anderson; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Muncy officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
