John T (or F) Stevens, was the son of Samuel Stevens and Margaret Larrimore. He was born in about 1829 and died after the 4 June 1880 Maryland census. He married Sarah A Cox abt 1833-1878, on unknown date. They were both Maryland born according the censuses below. His burial location is undocumented but most likely buried on his homestead or at nearby Mt. Harmony Church Cemetery. This site connects his children.

His wife Sarah Steven's death date on her marker is very hard to read. It is currently listed as 1878. However, she is listed on the 1880 census below, aged 49 years, with his family. For years Sarah at this cemetery was rumored to be John's wife, but the date needs confirmation and more research.

They had Stevens children:
James Samuel, 12 Mar 1850, below
William, abt 1852
Philip Thomas, 22 Sep 1856, below
John Joseph, 26 Jul 1860, below
Mary S, abt 1863
Robert Plummer, 2 Sep 1867 (Mary Ogle Tayman & Alta Pauline Grimes), below
Louis Franklin, 9 Jul 1868 (Emma O & Mary Maria Moreland), below
Rachael, abt 1870 (1880 census)

On the 30 Sept 1850 Dist. 3, Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer and planter JOHN T Stevens, 21 (b abt 1829); Sarah A Stevens, 19 (b abt 1831) and Jas S Stevens, 4/12 (born in abt May), plus farmer and planter John Griffin, 23; Thomas J Trott, 13; Rebecca J Wood, 7 and Ellen Cox, 34, all MD born.

On the 18 Aug 1860 Huntington, Dist. 3, Calvert Co., MD census, I found farm hand JOHN T Stevens, 31 (b abt 1829); Sarah Stevens, 28 (b abt 1832); James Stevens, 10; William Stevens, 8; Phillip Stevens, 3; servant Petsey Griffith, 50 and laborer Thomas Hunt, 28, all MD born.

Possible connection with a John F Stevens in 1864 who is listed in the Maryland Union Army in Misc. Card Abstract Records per Fold3.

On the 23 Aug 1870 Prince Frederick, Dist. 3, Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer JOHN T Stevens, 41 (b abt 1829); Sarah A Stevens, 39 (b abt 1831); James S Stevens, 20; Philip T Stevens, 14; Joseph J Stevens, 10; Mary S Stevens, 7; Robert P Stevens, 4; Lewis T Stevens, 2 and Margaret Chambers, 39, all MD born.

On the 4 Jun 1880 Dist. 3, Calvert Co., MD census, I found farmer J. T. STEVENS, 51 (b abt 1829); son John J. Stevens, 21; daughter Mary S. Stevens, 17; wife Sarah A. Stevens, 49 (b abt 1831); son Robert P. Stevens, 14; son Lewis F Stevens, 11; daughter Rachael Stevens, 10; grandsons: Richd. L Stevens, 8 and Wm. D. Stevens, 7, all MD born.

On 29 Dec 1924, his son Philip T Stevens's MD Certificate of Death states he was the son of John Stevens and Sarah Cox, all Calvert Co., MD born. His son Philip Stevens was the informant.

Many believed his wife was the Sarah Elizabeth Stevens, born 10 Dec 1830 and died 9 Nov 1878, buried at Middleham Cemetery. The dates could work, however 3 of her censuses above, list Sarah A (and 1 just Sarah). At one time Findagrave listed her maiden name as Cox, but it was altered to Gantt. (No response received about the name change.) I transcribed her marker, it says:

J. T. STEVENS
Who departed this
