William F. Stevens was the son of "Samuel" Stevens and Margaret Larrimore Stevens. His father Samuel Stevens, was born between 1790 and 1800 and died between 1840 and before the 1850 Calvert Co., MD census. His mother was born in about 1803 and died after the 1870 and before the 1880 census.

He married Mary Ellen Hardesty, in "1851" (seek document), the suspected daughter of Richard C. & maybe Elizabeth Hardesty. Further research is needed here.

In Rev. Wm. Norwell's Mt. Harmony School records 1852-1856 (a notebook), I found several notes where a William F. Stevens paid tuition (5 cents a day) for a Samuel W. Hardesty of Richard. I suspect this is his wife's brother. I also found a William T. Hardesty, age 37, wife Elizabeth 40 with a Samuel W. Hardesty, 13 in 1850 (Calvert Co. Census).

On the 1860 District 3, Sunderland, Calvert Co., MD Census, I found farmer and planter William Stephens (sic), 33; Mary Stephens, 26; John Stephens, 6; Joseph Stephens, 1; Barbera Stephens, 15; Samuel Hardesty, 18; servant Margaret Jones, 24 and Thomas Eniss, 13. They were all born in MD.

Mildred Bowen O'Brien's 2002 Stevens manuscript, gives William F. Stevens' wife, Mary Ellen Hardesty and their daughter Mary Ellen Stevens and her birthdate as 27 May 1865.

On the 1870 Prince Frederick, Calvert County MD. Census, I found farmer Wm. F. Stevens, age 41; Mary E., 39; farm laborer John W. 16; Mary E. 5; James F. 2 plus Josephine Hardesty 18, at home and George Hardesty, 16, a farm laborer. Charles Brook, a black child, age 7 was also living with them. I noted these Hardestys lived near a Samuel Hardesty (suspected brother of Mary E. Hardesty Stevens), 25 with his wife and 2 or 3 month old child in #419 & 426. They were all born in Maryland.

On the 1880 Calvert Co. Census, I found F. Wm. Stevens, 52, farmer and his wife Mary E., 47; children: farmhand John W., 25; Mary E., 14, at school; James F., 13, at school; Robert W., 11, at school; Cora B., 4 and Carrie S., 3, all born in MD.

Calvert Co. Deed Book SS, 6, p 306 - 307, made on 14 Aug 1884, between Sam and with Martha J Hardesty sells to Mary E Stevens, all of Baltimore City. For $310, Mary E Stevens, purchased in the 3rd Election District containing 25 acres, adjoining land of Jos A Ward, J Y Barber’s heir, Mary E Stevens, etc. Being the same tract that was deeded to Wm F Stevens by the heirs of Richard Birkhead and deeded to Martha J Hardesty by Wm E Stevens and wife. It was recorded on the same date.

On the 6 June 1900 5th Precinct, Baltimore, MD census, I found William Stevens, 72, born Sep 1827, married 49 years to wife Mary E., 66, Jun 1833, she had 10 kids, 6 living; son Robert W., 29, Aug 1870; dau. My grandmother's old photo album of Cabinet Cards has photos of Carrie and Cora Stevens listed as "Mama's cousins." Mama's mother was the daughter of Francis Stevens, FaG #29330450.

Mr. William F. Stevens, 73 years old, died Tuesday morning at his home, 632 Columbia avenue, of Bright's disease, after an illness of several months. He was born in Calvert county and for a number of years was a farmer. For several years he was employed in the State Tobacco Warehouse No. 2. The fiftieth anniversary of Mr. Stevens' wedding occurred on December 2, but he was too ill to celebrate the occasion. He is survived by a widow, who was Miss Mary E. Hardesty, three sons and three daughters. He attended the Columbia Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church. The Sun, Baltimore, MD, 3 Jan 1901, page 7, shared by MM.
