Ms. Ethel M. O’Banion, 82, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Monday, November 18, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Ethel was born on the late Ollie and Bertha (Conley) Bailey in Salyersville, KY on April 10, 1937.

Ethel spent most of her life in New Carlisle. On June 6, 1960, Ethel was united in marriage to Norman T. O’Banion, who preceded her in death on June 21, 2007 after 47 years of marriage. Ethel was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, cherished sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Ethel is survived by her children: Cindy (Bruce) Wighaman of Valparaiso, IN, Norman G. (Veronica) O’Banion of Koonz Lake, IN, Archie “Arch” (Wanda) O’Banion of Rolling Prairie, IN, Bill (Diane) O’Banion of Hudson Lake, IN, Patsy Bode of New Carlisle, IN, Brenda O’Banion of LaPorte, IN, Loretta Smith of Indianapolis, IN, Sandra (Roger) Teska of Hudson Lake, IN, Penny (Joe) Duda of Mill Creek, IN, Tammy Minne of Elkhart, IN, daughter-in-law Collette O’Banion of Hudson Lake; twenty grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Margie (Robert) Coley of Rensselaer, IN and Barbara Ann (Tom) Coley of Kouts, IN; brothers Bud Bailey of Wanatah, IN, Grover Bailey of Kentland, IN and Bill (Christie) Bailey of Rensselaer, IN; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Norman T. O’Banion, Ethel was preceded in death by her son, Norman D. O’Banion; sisters Maudie Hanaway, Edna Wright and Susie Chatman; brother Fred Bailey and sister-in-law Phyllis Bailey.

Services for Ms. Ethel O’Banion will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Homes – West Chapel, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Pastor Roger Coleman of LaPorte Assembly of God to officiate. Burial to follow at Mt.
