He was wise with money, saved what he earned in the military and upon his return home he purchased a Mobile Feed Mill Grinder. He was immediatly in business and traveled throughout Lee County grinding feed on-site for farmers on the farm. This seemed to be hard, dangerous, and a prosperous adventure.
His older siblings had married, and moved to Ft. Madison, His Father passed away, he shared the family home for many years, living with his Mother, until her death.
Living alone, single and retired from the mill, he searched for a friend (Lillian) that he had once known in his earlier years. He had purchased a small travel trailer, wanted to travel and see the United States. He found her interests were the same, they dated, married and traveled. He seemed to be really enjoying his time until he became ill and was diagnosed with lung cancer. He passed away in Burlington at their home on Nov. 2, 1986.
