Eleanor was born one of five children of Joseph and Mary Kramer, Feb. 20, 1912 in rural West Point, IA. She attended school at St. Mary's in West Point. She was active in school and was a guard on the girl's basketball team. lovingly referred to as the "Bloomer Girls" by her late husband Eugene E. Keran Sr. She was chosen in her senior year as the team captain. She was offered a chance to play college basketball. She refused, her only goal was to go to work and help her family financially, after graduating from high school. It was the middle of the great depression she walked 9 miles to Ft. Madison, in search for a job. The same day she obtained a room, and landed a job at the Meadow Gold Creamery. Eleanor left the creamery in 1932 for a better paying job at Sheaffer Pen Co. It was during her employment with Sheaffers that she met a guy at the skating rink in West Point, Rainbow Gardens and later married Eugene E. Keran Sr. in 1933. Eleanor's goal began when she had her two children, Marcia, June 12 1938, and Eugene Jr. Jan. 12, 1940. Her life was centered around her family, never having much herself, she only wanted the best for them. She raised her children while her husband served in the United States Navy during W.W.2. Upon his discharge, with his G.I. Bill. He attended Barber College and worked as a Barber until his death in 1979. After his graduation, she went to work for Mid West Wax Packaging, where she worked for 26 years. Eleanor was a great believer in education, and a high achiever herself in high school, spent much of her life seeing others realize higher education. Marcia her daughter, graduated from Quincy College in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology. Eugene Jr. her son, graduated from Creighton University in 1966, with a Doctorate Degree in Biochemistry.Eleanor sacrificed much to see those she loved, accomplish their dreams, never caring for fancy things herself. Employed until the age of 71, her mode of tansportation buzzing around town going to work, church, running errands in her little white 1969 Volkswagon bug. Survivors include, 2-sisters, Edna (Wm.) Sayers, Josephine (Laurence) Beckert, 1-son, Eugene Jr., 1-daughter, Marcia, 2-grandchildren, Machelle and Jennifer, nieces and nephews.Besides her husband Eugene Sr., she was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Kramer, I-brother Alvis, 1-sister, Irene Kramer.She was a Roman Catholic, services were at St. Mary's Church, Ft. Madison, Iowa. Rev. Robert McAleer officiated.Funeral arrangments were made by King-Lynk Funeral Home. Burial in Oakland Cemetary, Lee County, Ft. Madison, IA.
